JC Happiness works with The Fred Hollows
Foundation Hong Kong, to help raise funds and increase awareness, and assist in the education and
treatment of avoidable blindness.
The Fred Hollows Foundation is an international
development organization, established by renowned ophthalmologist Professor Fred
Hollows in 1992, aiming to end avoidable blindness. Four out of five people who
are blind don’t have to be. Restoring sight can change lives. The Foundation
trains local doctors and health workers, builds and upgrades facilities, and
provides equipment in order to achieve long-term sustainable eye health care. We
have restored sight to over 2.5 million people.
We have estimated that
for every one-dollar investing ending avoidable blindness it can bring four
times economic benefits. Thanks to public support, we are bringing positive
change to our patients, the community and the world.
In 2018 The Fred
Hollows Foundation achieved the following globally:
· 929,106 eye operations and treatments performed
· 24M+ people treated with antibiotics for
trachoma
· 59,207 people trained, including surgeons,
nurses, community health workers and teachers
· 57,074 surgeons, nurses, community health workers
and teachers trained
· 9 medical facilities built, renovated or
equipped
· 1,017 medical facilities, training centres and
schools equipped
